Galway Gardaí say there have been no breaches of the law in regard to closing times at city pubs and clubs following a crackdown in recent weeks.

Inspections have been carried out at venues in an effort to clampdown on existing legislation that governs opening and closing times, and the sale of alcohol.

The recent enforcement has caused uproar in the industry, leading to over 3,500 people signing an online petition.

NUI Galway students Union is the latest group to speak out , claiming the recent practice of Gardaí closing pubs and nightclubs at 1am is putting student jobs at risk.

President of NUI Galway students Union Paul Curley, says the stricter enforcement of licence laws will have a negative impact on students' working hours.
