Gardaí say no arrests have been made yet following what's known as a 'car cruise' in the Connemara region in the early hours of Sunday.

Up to 40 cars were involved in the drive between Spiddal and Rossaveal, which locals say damaged the road and disturbed homes and businesses.

"Cruise nights" are evenings during which cars drive slowly, bumper-to-bumper, through small towns.

Galway Gardaí say between 30 and 40 cars were involved in the drive from Spiddal to Rossaveal that took place between midnight and 4am on Sunday.

Gardaí from Carraroe and Salthill were involved and stopped several cars in the areas of Spiddal, Cashla, Derryroe, Ballinahown, Baile an Tsagairt and Rossaveal.
