NEW STERILISATION UNIT FOR MERLIN PARK HOSPITAL

A new sterile services department is to be established at Merlin Park Hospital as its current unit has been described as "grossly inadequate."The City Council has given the go-ahead to the HSE West to build a single storey extension to the main hospital block, enabling the transfer of day surgery to Merlin Park.The new unit will allow for the cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilisation of re-usable medical devices such as surgical instruments.The project will also provide for the upgrading of the orthopaedic outpatient department.
