It was an issue that had come up repeatedly according to one Minister

New and improved Galway bus services will come into play from next month as two new stops have also been added on the route.

Citylink has confirmed that Breaffy and Straide - whose residents felt the effects after Bus Eireann’s Route 52 servicing Ballina to Galway was stopped - in Mayo will be stops along their Ballina to Galway route.

They have also listened to customers and decided to push out two of their services; the half 5 evening bus now departing Ballina at 6pm and the half 7 departing at 8pm.

As well as the two additional stops, the bus service will continue to collect the people of Claremorris and Tuam to Galway city on that line.

Breaffy will be added to the schedule from September 7 while Straide won’t be added until December 7 due to roadworks in the vicinity.

Praising the news, Minister of State for Retail and Circular Economy Alan Dillon said it was an issue that had been raised with him repeatedly.

Minister Dillon said: “Good news for Straide and Breaffy. I’ve received confirmation that Citylink has been approved to reinstate both stops on the 430 Ballina–Galway route.

“This issue was raised with me repeatedly following the replacement of Bus Éireann Route 52, and I’ve worked closely with Citylink and the NTA to get it resolved.

“Huge credit to Jimmy Mulroy and the Straide community for making their voices heard, and to councillors Neil Cruise, Donna Sheridan and Ger Deere, along with Senator Mark Duffy, for their advocacy and working with me on this.

“I now look forward to seeing both stops back in operation as quickly as possible, restoring this vital transport link for the local community.”
