Musical Canadian siblings bringing A Hero's Welcome to Clifden

Acclaimed Cheng² Duo, siblings Bryan Cheng (cello) and Silvie Cheng (piano), will perform in Clifden’s Station House Theatre on November 20, their final show in an eight-concert Irish tour. It’s also final tour of the year from the Music Network organisation.
Bryan and Silvie have been making music together since childhood. Since officially forming Cheng² Duo (pronounced Cheng Squared Duo) in 2011, they’ve performed in major venues and at festivals throughout North America, Europe, Asia and South Africa.
The programme for their Music Network tour, entitled ‘A Hero’s Welcome’, will include Leoš Janáček’s ‘Pohádka’, Francis Poulenc’s ‘Cello Sonata’ and Brahms’ ‘Sonata No. 2 for Cello and Piano in F Major’.
A highlight will be the world premiere of ‘Sundrop’, by Irish/Welsh composer Anselm McDonnell, which Music Network commissioned for Cheng² Duo. It’s a good fit for the Canadian siblings who have commissioned and arranged 15 new works since 2013.
In addition to performing together and releasing four acclaimed albums, the two have impressive solo careers. Bryan won the 2023 Virginia Parker Prize and 2022 Prix Yves Paternot, while Silvie was the 2022–23 Cecilia Concerts Musician-in-Residence in Novia Scotia and a New York National Arts Club Artist Fellow.
Tickets for their Station House Theatre concert on Friday, November 20, at 8pm are €15. More information at www.musicnetwork.ie.
