MOYODE RESIDENTS SAY WOODS ARE TO BE SOLD

Date Published: 27-Dec-2007
Residents of Moyode in East Galway are insisting a Coillte Wood in the area is to be sold, and more than likely to a quarry owner.Senator Ciaran Cannon previously refuted claims that the wood - which contains valuable limestone rock - is to be disposed of.However Coillte has sent out letters and visited residents in Moyode clearly stating their intention to sell 78 hectares of land in the woods. There is strong local resistance to the sale and a campaign is being organised to save Moyode woods.A public meeting regarding the issue takes place on the 14th of January (2008) in St. Michaels Hall Craughwell.Moyode Woods preservation group PRO Frank Delaney says the people in the area treasure the wood
