Irish MEPs have agreed to help build a case for an international independent inquiry into the shooting dead of a former GMIT student in Bolivia.

Michael Dwyer was killed when Bolivian police stormed his hotel room in April 2009.

His family Martin, Aisling and Caroline Dwyer met with MEPs at the European parliament in Brussels last evening.

They claim a new forensic report proves Michael was executed and are looking for a new inquiry into his death.

The Tipperary man completed a four year construction management degree in GMIT in 2008 and during that time worked as a bouncer in the city.

Speaking from Brussels this morning, MEP Jim Higgins says he believes they can put pressure on Bolivian authorities for an independent inquiry
