Future cost containment measures for Galway Hospitals are to be discussed at a special meeting this evening.

The meeting is being held by the Health Service Executive in Dublin to debate the measures needed for the HSE Western area.

It comes as recent figures show that Galway University Hospitals have overspent by over 9 million euro so far this year.

Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe has also exceeded its budget of 24 million by over 3 point 6 million euro so far this year.
