Plans for a fresh multi-million euro investment at the Galway Clinic – which will include a new A&E department and new diagnostic and treatment facilities – have been lodged at City Hall.

The private hospital is planning a massive expansion of services in a new extension on its 12-acre site, as its existing A&E is “inadequately sized”.

The proposal includes a new two-storey extension over the existing single storey diagnostic block, which will provide a new A&E department at first floor level.

It will also accommodate additional diagnostic and treatment facilities, including two cardiac catheter laboratories.

A new diagnostic reception and waiting area, as well as and diagnostic and treatment facilities will be constructed in a new floor over the existing three-storey building (which houses the pharmacy, shop, offices and consultants’ suites).

There will also be a part one-storey and part three-storey extension over the existing prayer room which will provide a café next to the new A&E department.
