MAJOR BIKER PROTEST IN EYRE SQUARE

Date Published: 25-Sep-2011
Up to 100 bikers will gather in Eyre Square this lunchtime to protest against new EU regulations on motorbikes.
The EU Transport Committee wants to ban motorbike owners from buying bike parts from manufacturers other than the bike manufacturers.
New regulations on safety and vehicle maintenance are also included.
Irish and EU motorbike organisations claim it will cost thousands of jobs and effectively finish the pursuit of motorcycling, as well as hundreds of charity bike runs.
Today's protest begins in Eyre Square at 1pm and the motorcyclists will drive slowly along the M6 as far as Athlone.
