A circuit court judge has called on Ardrahan Councillor Michael Fahy to "act with honour" and resign from Galway county council having been found guilty of one count of fraud. Judge Micheal White made his comments while sentencing Fahy to one year in prison, with four months suspended at Galway Circuit Criminal court . Judge White said he considered the remainder of the sentence to be served in light of 7 months Fahy already spent in prison in 2007, from his original trial. The Judge allowed Michael Fahy to go free on his own bond of 200 euro on condition he keep the peace for 2 years. He also fined him 30 thousand euro which he must pay within 3 months or face a 3 months prison sentence.Fahy's legal team have indicated they wish to appeal the guilty verdict but leave to appeal was refused by Judge White. Solicitor for Michael Fahy, Gearóid Geraghty told Galway Bay FM News, Cllr Fahy will NOT be resigning his seat pending the outcome of the appeal.
