JFK's nephew to walk through Galway city

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The youngest son of United States Senator, Robert Kennedy, will take a walking tour through the city centre this afternoon.

Douglas Kennedy and his family will first appear at Kennedy Park in Eyre Square at noon.

It's to mark the 50th anniversary of his uncle, John F Kennedy's visit to the city in 1963.

Mayor of Galway, Terry O'Flaherty will welcome the Kennedy family back to Galway in the Sculpture Garden in Eyre Square at noon today.

Albert O' Toole's relief bust of President Kennedy will be on display on the plinth.

Mayor O' Flaherty will officially welcome the Kennedy family and present Douglas Kennedy with some gifts.

He will then make a speech in response.

The party will then walk from Eyre Square through the city down to Tí Cóilí on Mainguard Street for an Irish coffee reception.

The Galway visit follows a special celebration last week where the Irish government and the Kennedys celebrated the 50th anniversary of JFK's visit to Ireland with a celebration at the family's ancestral home in County Wexford.
