There may be no new Galway taxi licenses issued for three years if current proposals are agreed at Government buildings next week.Under a new proposal by local Fianna Faíl TD and Chairman of the Oireachtas Transport Committee Frank Fahey, a three year ban on all taxi licensing may be imposed until new regulation of licensing standards are agreed upon.Current regulations mean that taxi drivers can sell or rent licenses to a third party without any vetting process. The meeting, which is organised by Deputy Fahey, will be attended by the transport committee, the taxi regulator, politicians and taxi driver representatives from Galway, Dublin and Cork next Wednesday.Deputy Fahy says that current legislation for taxi licensing needs to be changed because it's causing several problems for taxi drivers and the public in Galway
