INSPECTION DEEMS ONE CLINICAL AREA UNCLEAN AT PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL

One out of three clinical areas assessed in a recent inspection at Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe was deemed unclean.The Health Information and Quality Authority has published the results of 12 unannounced inspections - and says the results vary widely.Portiuncula Hospital has 158 inpatient beds, a 12 bedded 5-day unit and 24 day care beds.The three areas assessed by HIQA earlier this month were St Francis' Ward, the Maternity Ward and St. Clare's five day ward.St Francis Ward was found to be not clean.The report concludes that while the two other clinical areas assessed were generally clean, there were many opportunities for improvement.
