Hewlett-Packard Galway recorded a loss of almost 9 million in the year to the end of October 2010.

The company provides software and services to customers globally and is moving more towards research and development and away from manufacturing.

According to The Irish Times, the directors say they're optimistic as they have two new R&D initiatives launched on site.

One of the projects based at the Galway plant in Ballybrit involves cloud services and the team working on it is expected to double in size this year, according to the accounts.
