A public meeting has been arranged for communities impacted by the proposed new Galway City Ring Road project.

Galway County Councillor Tomás Ó Curraoin is organising the meeting, which will be held in Barna Golf Club next Thursday, November 29, at 7.30pm.

Barna-based Cllr Tom Curran, who lives in one of the communities worst affected by the proposed new road, said the public meeting is open to all.

“This will give people the chance to come and air their views and their concerns about the new road,” said Cllr Ó Curraoin.

The ring road – and bypass project before it – has been a divisive issue, particularly in communities it directly impacts on.

In Barna, for example, there are up to a dozen homes that will be knocked to make way for the carriageway, and many more will be located in close proximity to it.

The public meeting is being held in advance of the December 21 deadline for public submissions to be made to An Bórd Pleanála.
