The Health Minister says the clinical investigation into the death of Savita Halappanavar will help reassure women University Hospital Galway is safe.

Speaking in the city earlier, James Reilly said the core issue was to find out if anything could have been done to prevent her death.

He met with staff and members of the HSE regional health forum west at Merlin Park Hospital for briefings on health reform measures.

However the Health Minister is not due to meet with Praveen Halappanavar - despite being in Galway today.

He says he's willing to meet him but no request has been received.
