A city man serving life for the murder of Manuela Riedo has been handed down two life sentences for the rape of a French student the same year. 29 year old Gerald Barry of Rosan Glas, Rahoon showed no emotion as Mr Justice Paul Carney gave him the maximum sentence at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Galway this morning. He had pleaded guilty to the rape of the 21 year old near a GAA pitch in Mervue on August 16 2007, just weeks before he killed the Swiss teenager Manuela Riedo.
