GARDAI WORK TO IDENTIFY MAN KILLED IN ROSSAVEAL ROAD CRASH

Gardai have requested the assistance of interpol as they work to identify the body of a man who died following a road crash near Rossaveal pier last night.

The pier road reopened at midday after the completion of a technical examination by forensic collision investigators.

The crash between a motorbike and the pedestrian took place just after 9 last night and was attended by two units of the city fire brigade.

The male driver and female pillion passenger of the motorbike were taken to UHG where they were treated for non-serious injuries.

The pedestrian, a male aged in his thirties, and believed to be a foreign national, was pronounced dead at the scene and a positive ID has yet to be confirmed.

A post-mortem has now taken place at University Hospital Galway.
