GARDAI AWAIT POST MORTEM RESULS ON BODY FOUND OFF INISMORE

GARDAI are awaiting the results of a post mortem carried out at the weekend on the body of a man washed up on the coast of Inismore last Thursday.

The post mortem was carried out at University Hospital Galway at the weekend and the Gardai in Salthill are now awaiting DNA results to come back from a laboratory in Dublin.

Gardai in Galway, family, friends and Oranmore Civil Defence members have been searching coastal areas for some weeks following the disappearance of Thomas Ward, who is aged 39 and who has family in the Westside of the city.

He was last seen in Galway city centre on February 7th at approximately 1 pm.

But the Gardai say they have no comment to make on rumours that the body washed up on Inismore last Thursday may be that of the missing city man.

The Gardai say it will be some days before the results of DNA tests are completed in Dublin which it is hoped will lead to the identity of the body washed up on the Aran island.
