A guard who had been based at Clifden garda station is to face trial over the theft of three thousand euro over four years ago.

46 year old Ciaran Folan with an address at Ramstown, Fethard on Sea, County Wexford appeared before Limerick District Court where a book of evidence was served.

The Irish Independent reports that Garda Folan is now stationed in New Ross in Wexford.

It's alleged he received the money on five dates from a bank account at Permanent TSB on Sarsfield Street in Limerick.
