A Galway West Independent TD is calling on the Government to lift the recruitment embargo on front line staff at Galway University Hospitals.

Deputy Noel Grealish will raise the matter with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny in the Dáil next week.

He wants the embargo to be lifted before a record number of nursing staff at Galway University Hospitals retire in the next few months.

Deputy Grealish says up to 50 nurses have applied for early retirement and if they're granted this, they must be replaced with new permanent staff or it'll have a detrimental effect on University Hospital Galway.
