Galway students to join Sligo rally in fight against third level cuts
Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 15 hundred Galway students are to join a rally in Sligo this afternoon as part of a national campaign against cuts to third level education.
The demonstration aims to protect the maintenance grant from any further cuts in the upcoming October Budget 2014.
Other rallies are being held in Dublin and in Cork in a bid to express student frustration against higher education austerity.
Students from NUIG gathered at the cathedral at 9.30 this morning where buses departed for Sligo, while students from GMIT are leaving the Dublin road campus in the next half an hour.
The Sligo rally takes place at lunchtime when students from across the West will gather in Stephen Street carpark at 2.15.
Kevin Donoghue is the USI Area Officer for the Border, Midlands and Western Region.
He says hundreds of Galway students are joining the march to show their frustration.
