Peer pressure is the main reason students in Galway are binge drinking and using drugs according to local Senator Fidelma Healy Eames. The Fine Gael Senator surveyed 235 transition year students - the majority of whom were from Galway- at a recent conference in the city.Students also cited image, curiosity, and rebellion as reasons for using drink and drugs at an early age.The Senator now plans to use this information to lobby the minister with responsibility for drug use Pat Carey to provide funding for educational programmes on drink and drugs in schools.Senator Healy Eames says it's time to start working from the information the young people are providing.
