GALWAY STUDENTS LAUNCH HIGH COURT BID

Date Published: 23-Feb-2012
Two Galway students and a Dundalk student have launched a High Court challenge against cuts to higher level grants.
The Union of Students in Ireland has branded the cuts unfair and unjust.
One is a third year, female student attending NUI Galway, the second is a female mature student at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and the third is a second year, male student attending Dundalk Institute of Technology.
Before last year's Student Services Act the rules for grants stipulated that if you lived more than 24 kilometres from your college you qualified for a non-adjacent rate.
That's been changed to 45 kilometres.
