At the crack of dawn last Saturday, two workers in hazmat suits and masks swooped on Christ the King Church in Salthill.

Equipped with spay guns filled with Sanosil 10 steriliser, the duo from Turloughmore-based company, Corrib Sanitising, set about disinfecting the pews, altar and entire church, as parish priest Fr Jerry Jennings prepares to welcome back parishioners to mass from next week.

At lunchtime on Tuesday, they were sanitising Asian Tea House bar and restaurant on Mary Street in the city, in time for customers to return next Monday.

And this weekend, they’ll descend on a number of barbers across Galway, to make sure they’re disinfected before they reopen to the public.

The workplace fogging process is absolutely effective against bacteria, according to Turloughmore’s Darren O’Shaughnessy, who set up the company two months ago.

“It’s 100% proven for coronavirus. It’s fully proven and is used in hospitals across the United States,” he said.
