Opponents of the Galway Ring Road have until Wednesday, June 17 to challenge the decision to grant planning permission for the €600m project.
There was some confusion about the deadline but An Coimisiún Pleanála has confirmed that the eight-week period to take a judicial review of its Ring Road decision is June 17.
The story was first reported on RTÉ Raidió na Gealtachta.
In a statement the Commission said the newspaper notice confirming its decision to grant permission for the road was published on April 23.
Taking that as the starting point, it said the eight-week period to take a judicial review against the Commission’s Galway Ring Road decision ends on the 17 June 2026.
It is the date of the newspaper notice and not the date of the Commission decision because of the interaction between section 50(7) and Part XIV of the Planning and Development Act, 2000 (as amended), a spokesperson said.
“The Commission has been served with one judicial review in respect of the Galway Ring Road and is aware that two other sets of proceedings have been filed with Central Office of the High Court.
“The Commission will examine the Statement of Grounds in each of the cases and will file its Statement of Opposition as soon as possible, so that the cases are ready for hearing,” An Coimisiún Pleanála confirmed.
The Connacht Tribune understands that the legal proceedings against the Ring Road were mentioned in the High Court in Dublin today (Monday).
