GALWAY MAN GETS PRISON SENTENCE FOR RAPING CHILD

A 22 year old Galway man has been sentenced to three years in prison with the final 18 months suspended after pleading guilty to three sample counts of sexually assaulting a child almost 4 years ago. Galway Circuit Criminal court heard the girl's father discovered the sexual abusewhen he checked her mobile phone messages. The court heard that during a routine check of the 13 year old girl's mobile phone in October 2004, her father discovered a text message sent by her to a number he did not recognise, telling the recipient she could not meet him for sex. The child’s father rang the number and recognised his then 18-years-old neighbour’s voice.
