Emergency services at scene of two incidents as woman rushed to Galway hospital

There has been a crash on the motorway for the second day in a row also
Emergency services are dealing with two incidents around Galway this morning with one person rushed to hospital.
A woman, in her 50s, was brought to University Hospital Galway with non life threatening injuries following a single vehicle crash on Upper Newcastle shortly after 7am.
Gardai also were at the scene of a two-car crash on the motorway near the junction 19 for Oranmore around the same time but thankfully no injuries were reported.
It’s the second motorway crash in two days as yesterday part of the M6 was fully closed to traffic after a crash.
Gardai attended the scene of the single road traffic collision which took place between Junction 15 Ballinasloe and Junction 16 Loughrea near the Galway Plaza.
All lanes on that stretch of motorway have been closed as a result with Transport Infrastructure Ireland warning motorists to use alternative routes.
They said: “Road closure due to a collision. All lanes affected. Significant delays to your journey are likely to occur. Please use a different route for your journey.”
A garda spokeswoman said: “Gardaí responded to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the M6, 19th October 2026. There are no further updates at this time.”
Elsewhere yesterday, an early morning commuter train from Galway to Dublin was brought to a halt.
The 5:25am train was being held at Newbridge just before 8am with an ambulance attending the scene.
An Irish Rail spokesperson said: “The 5:25am Galway to Heuston service has been held in Newbridge as they are awaiting an ambulance. A passenger on board requires medical assistance, there is no further information at this time.”
“The train has since departed the station again and is expecting just under an hour of a delay to Dublin.”
