Galway milkman delivers last carton after 43 years

The locals have shared fond memories of a man they have seen daily for over four decades
It is the end of an era for one Galway area as their local milkman has delivered his last carton after 43 years.
For over four decades, Arnie Trappe has been a regular face to the locals of Ballinasloe delivering to businesses and homes around the east of the county.
But this week he confirmed that he would be doing his last round with locals sharing memories of a man they have seen most days for nearly half a century.
From businesses who would be lost without him, to locals who remember his first day delivering, he has left a big mark across the area.
One local said: “Arnie’s commitment to the businesses of Ballinasloe and door to door delivery service is nothing short of fantastic.
“Thank you Arnie for your brilliant service to all the communities who woke up to find the milk delivered to their front door because of you. A mighty man, time to relax now.”
Another added: “Ah Arnie, we will miss you so much, listening to the van reverse in, the country and western music up to the last. We would run to make the coffee and have it on the table - with the few biscuits - when you'd come in with the milk. You always made time for the chats and laughs with all our ladies in Tus Nua, they will miss you so much, so please keep calling. Enjoy every moment of your retirement, you well deserve it.”
A third commented: “Best of luck Arnie, we have known each other for longer than the majority of people who live in this town. It’s a long time ago since Willy Divilly started you on ‘the milk’ . We will miss our chats on a Wednesday night. The very best of health and happiness in your well deserved retirement.”
