Galway East TD and Junior Transport Minister Sean Canney is pleading with drivers to slow down this Bank Holiday weekend.
Gardaí say they will be carrying out checkpoints from now until Wednesday.
It comes as a Garda safety campaign was launched yesterday.
Minister of state with responsibility for road safety, and local TD, Sean Canney says drivers must be aware that cars are heavy machines.
