GALWAY COUPLES OPT FOR CATHOLIC OVER CIVIL MARRIAGE

Galway couples continue to opt for catholic over civil ceremonies.

According to the Central Statistics office, catholic marriage ceremonies are chosen by 82 per cent of total city marriages and 69 per cent of total county marriages.

Just 16 per cent of city couples and 30 per cent of those who married in the county chose civil ceremonies.

Overall the figures revealed nationally that the marriage rate is falling while the age of both bride and groom continues to rise.
