GALWAY COUNCILLOR WANTS AFFORDABLE HOUSING SCHEME REINSTATED

The Government's decision to replace the affordable housing scheme with the new Equity Scheme will not work and will put further pressure on those looking to get onto the property ladder.That's according to City Councillor Declan McDonnell who is calling on the Minister for Housing, Michael Finneran to reconsider. The new equity scheme isn't finalised yet however it proposes that people re-pay the local authorities share of their house.Councillor McDonnell says this is very similiar to the old shared ownership scheme, something which was un-popular.Councillor McDonnell now fears the new rules will negatively affect those trying to get on the property ladder.
