Thousands of unemployed construction workers, including over 400 from Galway will be contacted next week over their eligibility to access EU financial aid.
Galway Bay FM has learned that the 9 thousand workers, who lost their jobs between July 2009 and March 2010, and are elgible for help under the European globalisation fund will get letters next week.
35 million euro has been approved in the fund which provides support to EU member states to support and retrain redundant employees.
The application was made by the previous government on behalf of workers involved in construction and related trades and professions.
Speaking to Galway Bay FM, MEP Marian Harkin says there's a real danger that some of the funding will never be spent
