Local GAA top brass hoping Covid-19 causes no further fixtures disruption

GALWAY GAA officials will be keeping their fingers crossed that Covid-19 won’t cause any further disruption to their fixtures schedule as the senior hurling and football championships reach a climax.
The county hurling semi-final between St Thomas’ and Cappataggle fell victim to the coronavirus last weekend as did other important fixtures in intermediate football, minor football and camogie.
That big clash between the title holders and Cappy has been refixed for Kenny Park on Sunday (3pm), while Pearse Stadium will host the football semi-finals on the same day – Moycullen and Tuam Stars get the action underway (1.30pm), with familiar foes Corofin and Mountbellew/Moylough closing the semis double bill (4.30pm).
Assuming there is no late fixtures upheaval, the Galway hurling and football finals are scheduled to go ahead the following weekend. Kenny Park will host the hurling final on Saturday, October 3, with the football showpiece set for Pearse Stadium the following day.
