Lady Luck smiles on United at last with late winner

Galway United 3
Limerick FC 2
Conor Barry scored a 93rd minute for Galway United as a season that for so long fans couldn’t wait to finish has turned in the last month into one they wish would never end.
It is now five wins in the last six games for Alan Murphy’s side, including three wins on the bounce in the league, and while those successes have come too late to positively impact on their final position in the table, things look an awful lot brighter for United heading into the future.
Twice they took the lead against Limerick on Monday night, and twice they were pegged back. Then, when visiting goalkeeper Jack Brady produced a point-blank save two minutes into injury-time, his man-of-the-match display looked to have denied United a win.
However, seconds later, the luck that has deserted United for most of the season finally turned up, and in some style.
Second-half substitute Dara Costelloe drove into the Limerick half, before playing the ball to the feet of Barry. He cushioned the ball with his left foot, then spun and curled a first-time effort past the brilliant Brady with one of the last kicks of the game.
United had made three changes to the side that hammered Cobh the previous Friday, with both Stephen Walsh and four-goal hero Marc Ludden suspended; while Costelloe dropped to the bench.
In came Vinny Faherty for his first start in five games, Iarflaith Davoren (first start in six games), and Cian Murphy (first start in 10 games).
