€19 million redevelopment of Galway city tourist attraction kicks off

It has been described as a major investment in Galway’s cultural future
The €19 million redevelopment of a Galway City tourist attraction has kicked off this week.
Works are now underway on the enhancement of the Galway City Museum after a €12.6 million contribution from Fáilte Ireland.
The new three-storey project, with a new incredible elevated view of Spanish Arch for visitors, will see state-of-the-art new exhibitions being held; learning spaces and improved accessibility.
Speaking about the redevelopment, GCC said it was a “major investment in Galway’s cultural future”.
Chief Executive of Galway City Council, Leonard Cleary added that “the project represents the city and will strengthen its position as a leading destination for heritage, learning, and tourism”.
Carey Building Contractors are behind the project with Galway City Council’s Project Development Team overseeing the construction also from start to finish.
The construction will be managed to minimise disruption as much as possible for nearby businesses and residents as well as tourists.
Mr Cleary, continued: “This redevelopment is a transformative investment in Galway’s cultural infrastructure. The expanded Museum will offer new opportunities for learning, interpretation, and community engagement, while also enhancing the visitor experience and supporting the wider tourism economy.”
