The draws have been made for the 2021/22 Connacht Schools’ Junior and Senior Cup competitions, with the first games set to be played in the second week of January.

Both age levels have been split into three separate competitions with A, B and C grades, with a combined total of 50 teams entered across the six competitions.

Coláiste Iognáid (the Jes) have been drawn in Pool B of the Connacht Senior A Cup alongside the 2020 beaten finalists, Sligo Grammar; as well as St Muredach’s College from Ballina, who won the Connacht Senior B Cup in 2019/20.

Their first game is against Sligo Grammar on the week Monday January 10; they have a bye week in week two; and will take on St Muredach’s College in week 3.

Pool A has four teams, with defending champions Garbally College joined by Summerhill College of Sligo; Marist College Athlone; and CBS Roscommon. The top two in each pool will qualify for the semi-finals to be played in the first week of March; with the final down for the week of Monday March 14.

St Joseph’s College (the Bish) and Coláiste Éinde have been kept apart in the Senior Development (B) Cup, which is also split into as group of four and a group of three.

The Bish, who were beaten in the 2020 final, are in Group A with Holy Rosary College Mountbellew, Rise College Westport, and Athlone CC. Their first game is against Rice College on the week of January 10; followed by HRC Mountbellew on the week of January 17; and Athlone CC the following week.

Coláiste Éinde have been drawn in the three-team all-Galway Pool B along with St Jarlath’s College Tuam - winners of the C Cup in 20-18/19 - and St Paul’s of Oughterard. They take on the Tuam school in the first week and St Paul’s in the second week, with a bye on week 3. Again, the top two in each pool qualifies for the semi-finals on the first week of March, with the final in the third week of March.

Presentation Athenry and Presentation Headford have been drawn in Pool A of the Senior Emerging C Cup, along with Gallen CS of Ferbane in Offaly, and St Louis CC of Kiltimagh in Mayo. The two Galway schools meet in week 1; with Athery taking on St Louis and Headford against Gallen in week two; and a reserve of those opponents in week three.

Coláiste Bhaile Chlair will take on Sancta Maria Louisburgh in Pool B in week one, with a bye in week two, and a game against Gortnor Abbey of Crossmolina in Mayo in week three. The top two are into the semi-finals, with the same timeline as the other senior cup competitions.
