Galway campaign group hits out at planned water charges
Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway campaign group has hit out at the planned introduction of domestic water charges branding it as 'double taxation'.
The Galway Campaign Against Household and Water Tax group argues that the move represents the commodification of water services for profit. It suggests that while it supports the development of a clean, safe and sustainable public water service, it should be paid for through 'progressive central taxation'.It comes as Galway city and county councils are continuing to carry out surveying work as they prepare for the installation of domestic water metering.Campaign spokesperson Conor Burke says local low income households cannot afford any further household costs.
