WINNER of three Irish titles and having boxed at national cadet level, it was little wonder that Kieran Forde dominated affairs at his local tournament,Monivea’s 21st, held at Ffrench’s on Friday night. He collected the Francis Cosgrove Memorial Cup as club boxer of the year and the trophy for the best home boxer of the night, as well as putting on a fine display in his bout against Niall Keogh(Westport Eagles) at Featherweight.Keogh was no makeweight in this contest, and showed that he had capabilities throughout the bout. He put some nice combinations together and foughtmanfully, but he lacked the menace in Forde’s fists and the purpose of his movement. Forde showed the craft to dominate the ring from, whipping out punishing rights to the head and body. He changed to left jabs with a fluid facility, and never looked in any trouble, running out a comfortable winner.
