IT’S back to ‘full steam ahead’ for Headford Mart this weekend after the controversy last week that led to no sale being held on Saturday.

Interim Manager at the Mart, Jimmy Hannon, confirmed to the Farming Tribune on Wednesday, that all issues which had arisen in the run-up to the cancellation of last Saturday’s sale had now been resolved.

“We have our usual full line-up of cattle and sheep sales on Saturday, but as well as that, we are holding a special weanling sale on this Friday evening (Oct. 16), starting at 5.30pm.

“Issues that arose last week have been fully resolved and we are delighted to be resuming our usual service – we are particularly looking forward to the special weanling sales over the next three Friday evenings: the 16th, 23rd and 30th,” Jimmy Hannon told the Farming Tribune.

The Farming Tribune understands that internal staffing issues which had arisen, led to the cancellation of last Saturday’s sale which had about 60 pens of cattle booked in for sale.

Since then, intensive negotiations have gone on behind the scenes to resolve the problems that had arisen, with the staff situation understood to have returned to normal.

Headford’s Saturday sales have proved to be extremely popular with farmers and buyers all across the West of Ireland with Manager Joe Wynne having built up a strong reputation for the mart over the past number of years. Mr. Wynne has been off due to illness over recent months.
