Central Government isn't providing enough money to fund the city's Mutton Island Water Treatment Plant. City Manager Joe McGrath revealed at the annual estimates meeting that the council is 700 thousand euro short of the plants' domestic services costs. Under national water pricing policy, Central Government is supposed to pay for domestic costs in full. The Department of the Environment granted just 825 thousand euro to Galway city council but the real amount needed it closer to 1.5 million euro.Cllr Donal Lyons is calling for an urgent meeting with Environment minister John Gormley to address the shortfall.
