An inquest has heard how a 24 year old Cavan man drowned after drunkenly jumping into the River Liffey as a stunt.

The Dublin coroners court also heard that Vincent Lynch had tried a similar stunt in the River Corrib in Galway.

Hotel worker, Vincent Lynch was seen taking his top off and jumping in the Liffey near the James Joyce bridge in the early hours of February 2nd last.

His flatmate David Rooney jumped in to rescue his friend but had to get out because the water was extremely cold and he went into shock.

He was described as an outgoing, happy go lucky adrenaline junkie who'd pulled a similar stunt in the Corrib in Galway.

The coroner was told a lot of young lads do this.
