A Galway Senator has expressed his "profound disappointment" following the exclusion of Galway schools in this week's government stimulus plan.

Sinn Fein Senator Trevor O'Clochartaigh says the plan does not recognise long-running campaigns for schools such as Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh and Clifden Community School.

He says these buildings are not fit for purpose, and were designed for far fewer student numbers.

His comments come following the announcement of an investment of 280 million euro in Education as part of a national stimulus package.

Meanwhile, The Irish Farmers association says the absence of agriculture from the stimulus package is a mistake.

In a statement, IFA President John Bryan says the package should have incorporated a stimulus for agriculture, as funding for farm schmes continues to be severely cut.
