The Department of Agriculture, food and the marine says the application for the proposed Galway bay fish farm is still under consideration.

Bord Iascaigh Mhara has submitted an application for an aquaculture licence for the cultivation of finfish about a mile off the coast of the Aran Island of Inis Oirr.

Earlier this month, hundreds of protestors took part in a demonstration in the city to highlight their opposition to the plans.

The issue was also raised in the Dail where it was revealed over 410 submissions on the plans were made to the Department for agriculture, food and the marine.

Bord Iascaigh Mhara claims the facility could generate over 100 million euro worth of exports per anum and create hundreds of jobs.
