COUNTYS HOUSING GRANTS UNDER THREAT

Housing grants for the elderly and disabled are under threat as Galway County Council struggles to find finance to match Government funding for the schemes.Under a new agreement, the council must match twenty percent of the finance made available by the Government to pay for essential repairs in homes of the elderly and disabled.Under the old agreement, the council had to match 33 percent.The HSE has also stopped funding for disability grants, and there is concern that these grants must now be paid for by Galway County Council.
