COUNTY COUNCIL PAYS OUT 60 PERCENT OF STUDENT RENEWAL GRANTS

Date Published: 30-Oct-2012

Galway County Council says 60 percent of third level student grant renewals have been paid out so far this year.

Almost 12 hundred of the existing 2 thousand and 58 applications have been processed to date, a figure much higher than the same time last year.

The higher output is due in part to the new national system of processing grants, SUSI, as all new third level students must now apply directly for assistance through the national body.

Just 747 out of 4,177 grant applications for new Galway students have been awarded to date.
