COUNCILLORS DEBATE 30 SUBMISSIONS TO ORANMORE LOCAL AREA PLAN

Date Published: 13-Jul-2012
32 submissions have been debated on the draft local area plan for Oranmore.
Members have been discussing the Manager’s Report at a special meeting of the local authority all day today.
Concerns have been raised regarding an unfinished development in Oranhill which Cllrs fear poses a major health and safety risk to children.
It follows a submission which asks that the site should be made safe and returned to a green area due to its potential to lead to a fatality.
However, the Manager's report states there's a live permission on the site until May 2016, therefore enforcement action is not an option.
Cllrs were advised that the developer has been in contact as recently as this week.
Water is lodging in the area and some pathing has been removed.
Local Cllr Liam Carroll has said that the local authority should use the full rigours of the law to ensure there is no fatality or injury.
A number of changes to the Manager’s report were also passed by Cllrs.
These involved removing a site at Cartron from the local area plan and amending the boundary along the Coast Road, to enable future agricultural use of the land.
Cllrs also passed a proposal for the zoning consideration of single house developments on family owned lands along the R338 Coast Road.
Cllr Liam Carroll, Chairperson of the Oranmore Local Area Cllrs, says the solution was reached on condition such single housing would not impact on the Strategic Reserve Area.
