Galway is losing out on vital government funding because of an outdated Government designation, according to city councillor John Connolly. Revitalising Areas by Planning Investment and Development, or RAPID, is a government initiative which gives funding to disadvantaged area in the country.Galway is currently designated as 'Strand Two' RAPID where the city is treated as one area. But other Irish cities have more than one designation and get much more funding as a result.City Cllr John Connolly says Galway’s designation based on demographic figures from the 1996 census is outdated.Cllr Connolly wants Minister Eamon O' Cuiv to give Galway two RAPID funding opportunities, one each for the west and east sides of the city.
