COUNCIL TRIES TO FIND SOURCE OF CITY OIL LEAK

Date Published: 09-Sep-2011
Council crews are this morning trying to find out the cause of an oil leak, which resulted in part of Lough Atalia being polluted yesterday.
The oil spillage happened yesterday afternoon around an outflow pipe in the water close to the Huntsman end of Lough Atalia.
There was a strong smell of oil in the area for a time, however the oil has since dissipated.
Council crews are now tracing the pipe back up through Moneenageisha to the Tuam Road to find how the oil leaked into the system.
A Council spokesperson says it appears to have been a "once-off leak" and that there is not threat to water quality in the area.
